Recent advances in the management of chemical ocular injuries have significantly impacted emergency care and treatment outcomes. Chemical injuries to the eyes, caused by substances like acids, alkalis, solvents, and irritants, are a critical concern in various settings, including occupational environments and domestic accidents. This article explores the epidemiology of chemical ocular injuries, their clinical manifestations ranging from immediate symptoms to ocular surface changes and complications, and the classification systems used for assessing the severity of these injuries. It also delves into the latest medical and surgical management strategies, including immediate first aid measures, ophthalmic evaluations, topical medications, surgical interventions like amniotic membrane transplantation and limbal stem cell transplantation, and postoperative care protocols. Understanding these recent advances is crucial for healthcare professionals to enhance their management approaches and improve patient outcomes in cases of chemical ocular injuries.
