Overall, sanitary toilet complexes help in ensuring social dignity and privacy, and maintaining the health status of the village. However, constructing a sanitation complex even in semi-urban and urban areas in India is not an easy task. Flawed monitoring leads to overflow of toilets, which results in their inutility. Present research first explores the key challenges faced by public toilet sanitation complexes in semi-urban and urban areas in India. It thereafter explores the hierarchical inter-relationships amongst the various challenges faced through ISM methodology.
