This chapter briefly describe about the enhancement of the quality of rolling and its allied practices to achieve high productivity, unmatched quality, improved Techno Economic Factors (TEF) and equipment reliability in SSP’s hot rolling mill. The logistics and transportation involved in the stainless-steel coils involved further stages of processing compared to carbon steel coils as they are further re-rolled/processed in the cold rolling mill. The Salem Steel Plant (SSP) is operated by Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a state-owned steel production enterprise in India. In India, SSP is a pioneer in the provision of stainless steel coils and sheets with a greater width. Austenitic, martensitic, ferritic, and low-nickel stainless steel can be produced at the mill in the form of sheets and coils. The total installed capacity is 70,000 tonnes and 3,64,000 tonnes per year in cold rolling mill and hot rolling mill respectively. Apart from the aforementioned, SSP boasts the first state-of-the-art stainless steel blanking plant in India for coin or utility blanks. The steel melting shop (SMS), hot rolling mill (HRM), and cold rolling mill (CRM) are the three main components of SSP's equipment. The main purpose of Salem Steel Plant's hot rolling machine is to roll stainless steel slabs. Reheating furnace, roughing mill, steckel mill (finishing mill), down coiler, and roll shop are among the hot rolling mill's amenities.
