Abstract

The 2-((1H(2H)-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione 3 and N-((1H(2H)-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl)-
benzamide 4 have been synthesized, respectively, via [2+3] cycloaddition between 2-(1,3-
dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)acetonitrile 1 and N-(cyanomethyl)benzamide 2 with sodium azide using Koguro’s
method. The inhibition effect of tetrazole derivative 3 and it precursor 1 on mild steel corrosion in
molar hydrochloric acid (1M HCl) has been investigated. The structures of the synthesized products
were established on the basis of NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C), Elemental Analysis and MS data.
