Abstract

Determining the proteins is an essential step to understand the effects of chemicals such as boric acid (BA) for different organisms. For this purpose, Drosophila melanogaster was reared on artificial diets containing different concentrations of BA (10-300 mg/L) then, total protein profiles (larva, pupae and adult) were obtained by SDS-PAGE method. Important changes in the amount of total proteins were determined. The effective dose of BA was between 100-300 mg/L. When all stages fed with 300 mg/L of BA, a lethal impact was identified. As a result, BA had a negative effect on the development of Drosophila and changed as a result of dose depending manner. BA was more effective in females than males, so the resistance of males were higher against the lethal dose. Consequently, at the highest dose of BA has caused several serious problems and toxic effects on D. melanogaster macromolecules.
