Abstract

A widespread disease called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects 4% to 12% of women of reproductive age. One of the most significant gynaecological problems affecting women of reproductive age is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Menstrual cycle irregularities, anovulation, fertility problems, hirsutism, hyperandrogenism, acne, hair loss on the scalp, functional ovarian hyperandrogenism, increased insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, and obesity are frequent symptoms of PCOS. The rate of androgen and oestrogen production and metabolism are disturbed in PCOS patients. Our aim is to study the effects of different herbal extracts on changes in the blood levels of sex hormones and ovarian tissue in light of the rising incidence of PCOS and related physical and mental issues, as well as the consequences of changes in sex hormones in the development of this disease. The indications and symptoms, causes of high hormone levels, and treatment of PCOS using natural remedies such as liquorice, aloe vera, etc. are briefly reviewed in this chapter.
